In recent decades, Šibenik’s economic profile has undergone a profound transformation. Once a center of heavy industry, it is now a modern, eco-conscious economy focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.

Although Šibenik is widely recognized as a prominent tourism hub, official financial indicators point to the exceptionally strong and stable role of the real economy within the city's overall economic landscape. With over 1,400 active business entities, the city is achieving historic economic results.

Key economic sectors by revenue:

  1. Wholesale and retail trade: According to official data from the Financial Agency (Fina), this is the city's leading economic sector in terms of total revenue generated. The sector is characterized by a robust distribution network and developed commercial infrastructure that serves the wider region;
  2. Manufacturing industry: This sector forms the foundation of Šibenik’s economic development, exports, and stable employment. It relies primarily on a long-standing tradition in metalworking, mechanical engineering, materials processing, and the energy sector;
  3. Shipbuilding and maritime industry: A traditionally strong sector focused on vessel construction, refitting, and servicing. Local facilities have successfully positioned themselves among the leaders in the Adriatic region, with a particular emphasis on building modern aluminum catamarans, servicing vessels for nautical tourism, and implementing technological innovations.
  • "Podi" Business Zone: One of the most successful and award-winning industrial and business zones in Croatia. It serves as a central hub for attracting new investors in the logistics, renewable energy, and environmentally sustainable manufacturing sectors;
  • Technology incubators and knowledge: Through the operations of the Trokut Šibenik New Technology Incubator, the PIN Entrepreneurial Incubator, and the Šibenik University of Applied Sciences, the city is rapidly developing into a regional ICT and startup hub;
  • Maritime orientation and the Port of Šibenik: A key hub for the transshipment of bulk cargo (such as artificial fertilizers and phosphates) that maintains a strategic role in connecting the region commercially with the rest of the world.
