Tourism Volume and Accommodation Capacity

Šibenik consistently achieves stable results, recording over one million commercial overnight stays annually. A distinctive feature of tourism in Šibenik, compared to the rest of the coast, is the exceptionally high share of hotel accommodation in total tourism volume; this ensures higher spending per guest and a high standard of organized service.

Visitor Statistics

  • Total arrivals: Between 285,000 and 295,000 guests annually;
  • Total overnight stays: Consistently range between 1.10 and 1.16 million stays in commercial establishments;
  • Visitor profile: Foreign guests (from Germany, Austria, France, and the Netherlands) account for approximately 890,000 overnight stays. Domestic guests show strong double-digit growth (exceeding 75,000 arrivals), driven primarily by conference and weekend tourism.

Accommodation Structure

  • Hotels, campsites, and hostels: These form the backbone of organized commercial tourism, ensuring high employment levels and generating the destination's largest revenues. The Šibenik area features 16 categorized hotels offering over 4,500 beds, with the market dominated by high-end 4- and 5-star properties. The offer ranges from a large integrated family resort on the city outskirts to luxury heritage hotels within the historic city center. The range of organized accommodation is complemented by well-equipped campsites located in the wider city area and towards the national park, generating over 120,000 overnight stays annually, while modern hostels are available for younger travelers within the city itself;
  • Private accommodation (apartments and holiday homes): This sector is seeing steady growth, particularly in high-quality family apartments and holiday homes, which account for the largest share of the city's total tourist bed capacity. Coordination and management of this sector are efficiently handled through modern digital solutions provided by the local tourist board;
  • Nautical tourism: Thanks to its exceptional geographical location, the Šibenik area contributes significantly to Croatia's total nautical tourism revenue. Local marinas offer state-of-the-art facilities with over 900 berths (both in-water and dry-dock). The offering includes modern infrastructure purpose-built to accommodate superyachts and megayachts up to 140 meters in length, holding top international accolades for safety and service quality. Boaters generate above-average spending outside of accommodation costs, directly benefiting local restaurants and the charter industry. The city also hosts luxury boutique cruise ships that anchor right in front of the historic center.
